Startect Zoetis **

Startect is a dual active short acting oral sheep drench, made by Zoetis

It contains the newest active Derquantel. The second active is Abamectin.

It comes in 5L and 15L.

The dose rate is 1ml/5kg.

ESI is 28 days

Do not use in sheep undere 15kg

Do not use in Goats

Startect has no reported resistance to date, hence there is full confidence in it’s efficacy.

As always, sheep should have a Worm Egg count conducted to determine if they need drenching before a sheep drench is used.

Startect is perfect as a weaning drench or first summer drench as these are seen as critical “no brainer drenches”, or any other time when a farmer is happy to pay for the efficacy of a newer active. Zolvix Plus could also be used.

If a farmer is not willing to pay for Startect or Zolvix Plus, they should at a minimum use a triple active product like Triguard.

IF ESI is an issue for a sheep producer due to selling sheep within a few weeks after drenching, then Sheepguard Oral could be chosen (7 day ESI)

Startect should only be used with a Startect applicator, as the product can be harsh on rubbers and seals, and the specific Startect drench gun is set up to cope.

Startect can make sheep momentarily cough, but this should resolve fairly quickly.
