Websters 5B12

5B12 is a vaccine, made by Virbac (Websters brand). It is for both sheep and cattle.

It comes in 200ml + 500ml

Dose rate is 2ml sheep, 4ml cattle

There are no withholds

Vaccine to provide protection again the 5 clostridial diseases (same as Ultravac 5in1) plus it contains Vitamin B12. See section on B12 for more info.

This vaccine is not as popular for breeding sheep as it is always recommended to provide protection against Cheesy Gland, so Glanvac 6B12 is a better choice.

This vaccine is also not as popular for cattle, as the B12 component is such a small amount. Therefore, except maybe for smaller calves, the amount of B12 in this vaccine is rarely enough to give a proper “boost” in cattle and definitely not enough to help those animals who are suspected of a B12 deficiency.

For some producers, the convenience of this product drives them to choose it, to provide 5in1 protection and some B12 albeit a small amount.

Ideally for cattle, always recommended Ultravac 5in1 for clostridial vaccine, and if B12 is deemed needed, use a straight B12 product same day (Cobalife B12).

5in1 is the “base” vaccine that should be the bare minimum for sheep and cattle producers.

It covers 5 major clostridial diseases seen in Australia, which all have the same implication of death - it’s about prevention, as there is no treatment for these!!

They all can arise in differing conditions, and every sheep and cow is susceptible across their lifetime, with pulpy kidney being the most well known and most prevalent.

When sheep and cattle are provided the correct schedule (2 doses, 4-6 weeks apart, followed by annual boosters), the vaccine provides protection against:

• Enterotoxaemia (pulpy kidney disease), tetanus, blackleg, black disease, and malignant oedema

Websters 5B12 is a water based vaccine, that can go through any vaccinator suitable for the required dose rate.

Once the vaccine is first used, it must be used up with 24 hours or discarded (this could now be longer than 24 hours, but the information is not available on the Virbac website or via any other google search!).
