Description
Eprinomax (generic version of Eprinex, made by BI)
Eprinomax is a single active pour-on cattle drench, made by IO.
The active ingredient is Eprinomectin. It comes in a range of sizes.
Eprinomax is a broad spectrum cattle drench, with activity against the major species of worms, plus both biting and sucking lice.
It also has a registration for treating worms in deer.
Dose rate:Â 1ml/10kg Dose rate table starts at “up to 50kg”
ESI – 0 days Milk Withhold – 0 days
To apply: use any cattle pour-on applicator with a large enough barrel for required dose rate. Apply in a single band along the back from the withers to the top of the tail.
Eprinex has been around for many years, and therefore the active ingredient in Eprinomax has been used for many years. Like many other cattle drench pour-ons, it is a single active mectin. Even though they may still work very well on many properties, it must be recognized that there will most likely be some resistance to this product. It is, however, most likely to have better efficacy than Cattleguard, and definitely better than Mectec!
Industry best practice is two fold: we should no longer rely on one active ingredient, and we should consider that injectable and oral administration of cattle drench is the preferred method for efficacy (ie. Dectomax V, Trifecta Oral or the dual acting P/O Cydectin Platinum)
Pour-ons are still favoured by many producers as they are easy to use, and they have often done it this way for years. If a producer does not have a good cattle crush or staff to help, then a pour-on product might also still be the safest way.
Even if it would be better to inject or dose orally – sometimes this isn’t possible for the farmer, therefore pour-on cattle drenches will likely be on the shelf of rural stores for years to come.
As with any cattle drench, focus should be on cattle under 18 months of age, as they are the most susceptible to worms – particularly up to 12 months of age, as they will have not yet developed any immunity to worms.
