ClikZin (for fly control in sheep)
ClikZin is made by Elanco
It is for the short-term prevention of blowfly strike in sheep
It is a low rate Dicyclanil (12.5g/L) which gives shortened protection to original Clik, along with a shorter ESI and wool withhold.
For use on sheep with more than 3 weeks wool (not off-shears)
It comes in 5L and 20L. It is ready-to-use, water based.
ClikZin is applied as a spray-on, through an applicator with a fan spray nozzle, ideally an Elanco one. Applicators are always washed out with water.
See label or website for application dose rate and directions, as they change depending on the area to be targeted for protection.
Protection period Up to 11 weeks
ESI 21 days
Wool Withhold Do not use less than 1 month before shearing
ClikZin is often chosen by producers where wool withhold or ESI is a concern.
Dicyclanil is an Insect Growth Regulator (IGR) so it prevents maggots that are laid on the sheep from growing, so they don’t cause damage, and in turn starve and die.
It will not kill existing maggots, therefore another product must be used on existing strikes  - best is Extinosad Aerosol or Extinosad Eliminator liquid.
Any fly product can have reduced efficacy in certain conditions. Heavy rain and high fly pressure during the protection period can reduce length of protection.
There is known resistance to Dicyclanil, so producers should be aware of this, and therefore expect that the stated protection period may be reduced.
They should also consider using other active ingredients across a fly season if re-treatment is needed (such as Avenge or Jetaway, but be careful with withholds)
Significant soiling with dags, urine, mud, dust can reduce efficacy, as can scouring post application. A light crutch before treatment is recommended where significant dags are present.
ClikZin can also be used at mulesing and marking time, to protect wounds from flystrike during the wound healing process – however Clik would be a better choice. See label for directions.
