Trifecta Oral drench (registered for both sheep and cattle)

Trifecta Oral is a triple active oral drench made by Coopers

The active ingredients are Abamectin, Oxfendazole and Levamisole

It also contains selenium and cobalt (see note below on selenium)

It comes in 2.5L + 10L

Dose rate

 1ml per 10kg

ESIÂ Cattle 21 days

 Sheep 28 days

Do not use in lactating dairy cows or within 28 days of calving

Do not use in calves less than 100kg or less than 16 weeks of age

Do not use in sheep under 15kg or less than 6 weeks of age

For sheep, this product can be used in place of Triguard, however cost and acceptance as a brand has been a barrier for sheep producers who know and trust Triguard. Trifecta is a low dose product, so often the overall cost of the drum is a barrier when in fact it does double the sheep. Triguard will most likely continue to be the mainstay of the triple active drench sold for sheep for many years yet at Millers Ag, with Trifecta sitting on the cattle shelf.

It is the only triple active oral drench registered for use in cattle, hence needs to be considered in any cattle producers program, particularly for susceptible youngstock under 18 months

Oral drenching of cattle of course comes with its challenges, and not every producer is prepared to do it, however for young cattle who are most at risk from carrying a larger worm burden, and more susceptible to production loss from a worm burden due to low immunity – it should be part of a program along with Dectomax V.

Be careful with selenium – it can be toxic when another source of selenium is already being fed, therefore levels of selenium in the animal will already be high. Avoid giving two products containing selenium on the same day. This is particularly important for sheep and cattle of a smaller weight, ie. lambs under 25kg or smaller calves.

This product can be used through any drench gun. Cattle producers may choose a normal or hook drench gun.
