Description
Description
Scourshield is a vaccine, given to cows, as an aid in the prevention of calf scours caused by Bovine Rotavirus, E. coli and Bovine Coronavirus
It is made by Zoetis
It comes in 100ml (50 doses) and has no ESI
Scourshield is a vaccine with a two dose protocol in a cows (or heifers) first year of receiving the vaccine.
The same two dose protocol is followed whether that is existing previously unvaccinated (with Scourshield) cows prior to calving or heifers in their first year of calving.
These doses should be 3-9 weeks apart, with the timing of the second dose being important - the second dose must be given 2-6 weeks prior to calving.
Annual boosters should then be given 2-6 weeks prior to calving in subsequent years
This puts antibodies through the colostrum for the calf, to provide short term protection through the most critical risk period
The dose is 2ml, which can be given either subcutaneous or intramuscularly. Scourshield is not known to cause large site reactions.
Scourshield is relatively safe to use, and can go through any vaccinator set up to take vaccine bottles. Zoetis make a particular Scourshield bottle mount applicator which is recommended for use with the product.
Refridgerate at 2-8c, do not freeze.
Once the rubber on the vial is first pierced the vaccine can be used for up to 63 days - as always, store upright in the fridge disconnected from the draw off tube
